Pallet Rack
If you are looking for the right Pall rack design and system to plan your warehouse space, consider this as a crucial step on the way to optimizing your storage space and improving the general warehouse operation. There are many types of pallet racking systems available. Your choice must be made depending on special storage needs which are related to your pallet loads and warehouse layout.
Pallet racks are the core of any warehouse storage system. There are several kinds of racking to choose from, whether it’s standard needs or more specific ones. Used pallet racking also does the job, offering cost-saving benefits for the more budget-conscious operations.
A well-constructed pallet rack system includes several critical pallet rack components:
Pallet rack uprights provide vertical support.
Pallet rack beams create the horizontal support where pallets rest.
Upright frames, or columns, are the vertical supports in pallet racking. They have pre-punched holes, usually in a teardrop shape, allowing for flexible beam placement. Made from either structural or roll-formed steel, upright frames form the core structure and can be customized to fit your warehouse layout and load requirements.
Cross beams are horizontal bars that connect to upright frames, creating pallet storage levels. They distribute the weight of pallets evenly across the racking. Available in various lengths and capacities, cross beams are typically made from structural or roll-formed steel.
Wire decking consists of mesh panels that sit between cross beams, providing a sturdy yet ventilated surface for pallets. It prevents pallets from falling, improves air circulation, and allows water from sprinklers to pass through during a fire, enhancing safety in your warehouse.

Upright Frame: To determine the correct height for your pallet rack’s upright frame, use this formula: Frame height = (pallet height + beam height + 4” clearance) x number of levels. This will ensure adequate vertical space between each level for safe and efficient pallet storage.
Cross Beam: To calculate the appropriate beam length for your pallet racking, add the width of the pallets, leaving 5″ clearance between the pallet and the upright, and 6″ between adjacent pallets. This provides enough space for easy loading and unloading, while ensuring the system remains stable.
